SURVIVAL RELATED LINKS
This is a really neat site hosted by three of my good friends, Christopher Nyerges, Alan Halcon, Dude McLean, and myself. All three are awesome survival instructors in their own right. This site has lots of articles by, and interviews with, knowledgeable practitioners of survival. There is also a Dirttime Forum that discusses survival and even has a section just for survival kits! Please check it out, and if you like it, join the Forum!
The School of Self Reliance is the survival training school we recommend if you are on the west coast. Classes are led by Christopher Nyerges and his staff. Since 1974, Christopher Nyerges has taught over 30,000 students on Edible Wild Plants, Survival Skills, Orienteering, etc. He is the author of seven books, including Guide to Wild Foods and Enter the Forest. If you are on the west coast, contact him, and if you can't attend one of his courses, maybe you will buy a book.
"Wildman" Steve Brill is New York's Best Known expert on edible and medicinal plants. He is the real deal! A wild food expert and author. Check out his site!
The Outdoor Podcast is owner by a friend of mine, Craig Cole. You will find podcasts that cover lots of different areas of interest. This site is about enjoying the many different aspects of the outdoors. Whether you are taking a walk through the park, hunting a spring gobbler, sitting in a deer stand or even cooking up some delicious barbecue. Check it out!
The Jack Mountain Bushcraft School is the Survival/Bushcraft school we recommend on the East Coast if you are interested in full 7 day courses. Owned by Tim Smith and located in Maine, it is the real deal, and he is also a licensed guide. Check them out!

Magnetic Declination Calculator
This is a site which has a calculator that allows you to enter your location, by either zip code or latitude/longitude, and obtain the current magnetic declination for that area.
Buy directly from the U.S. Geological Survey. USGS Topographical maps, Aerial photographs, Satellite Images, and Publications. You can even locate and download maps.
Ready America is a division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and provides helpful preparedness information to help respond to all kinds of emergencies. Included are some recommendations for a Basic Emergency Supply Kit, Making a Plan, and Being Informed.
The National Weather Service from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is a great site whereby you can go to get updated weather warnings and forecasts. You can insert your state to get up-to-date warnings for your area.
NOAA WATCH is another NOAA site which allows you to insert your city and State and provides you with a 7 day forecast for your area.
