The Meridian lines can be lined up with those on your map, and the moveable arm swung to determine your heading in degrees. Measuring 5 inches in diameter with a 3 inch arm. It should be noted that this tool is marked in 0-90 degree quadrants, not 0-359 degrees. However, the total is still 360 degrees and will still allow you to calculate a bearing.
